The charmed baker baked the cranberry Quatre Quarts cake and everyone asks to bake it again. Can I get the recipe serves the same cake up for dessert. For recipe click here. See review here. Reading writing and cooking bakes two cakes and likes the Indian cashew cake and says "For the dedicated baker or globetrotting foodie, A World of Cake is a wonderfully detailed resource. It is not your run-of-the-mill, hand-holding manual for the complete kitchen novice, nor is it intended to be one. The knowledge of the basic mechanics of baking is essential to achieving the full benefit of Castella’s work by baking through this culinary atlas. In many cases, even old hats in the kitchen will learn something new – and no matter where they hail from, everyone will come away hungry for more". For full review click here.
Let's get superstitious! Brooklyn non features good luck cakes- the Greek Vasilopita for New Years and the King Cake for New Orleans cake- I love the braiding on this one. For post click here.
Half baked says, "The recipes are well written and easy to follow. Some of the cakes in the book may not be at a beginner baker's level, I feel there is enough instruction that even a very novice baker would feel confident making the cakes. The cookbook is loaded with beautiful photographs that will have you drooling from beginning to end. It's a truly gorgeous cookbook that you will want to use again and again. I wanted to make almost every cake in the book, but settled on making the recipe for rum cake from Tortuga. I was not disappointed!" For full review and recipe click here.
Cute Everything says "It is clear that an enormous amount of excellent research and work went into this book, which is jam-packed with interesting information and stunning pictures. The book offers a fascinating look at not just cake, but also the elements of each culture that went into its creation. The author takes us on an amazing journey around the world, with the extra benefit of it being through the means of cake!" For full review click here.
Stella Oh attends Vroman's event and bakes a Liberian pumpkin cake. She says "I attended the event for many reasons, but most importantly, I wanted to learn more about the inspiration behind the book I was (and am) so in love with. I personally favor this book because it not only fulfills my growing passion for cakes, but it also satiates my dire cravings to travel and learn about new cultures and cuisines. Through its thoughtfully detailed historical and cultural background on selected continents and regions, Castella does an impeccable job in representing each culture through cake. Inspirational to say the least, this book will instill a newfound appreciation for cakes in all its readers." For full review and give away click here.
Thank you Vroman's, Renee, Sienna, Larena and attendees for a fantastic event.
"The book is liberally frosted with photographs so enticing, they're nearly pornographic. A World of Cake will be, in many ways, the most influential book in your collection, if not the most powerful, as it speaks a universal language and affords you the knowledge and confidence to make any cake in the world. This book will have you shouting, as a famous woman once did: Let them eat cake!"
You are invited to my history of cake lecture and book signing at Vroman's bookstore in Pasadena on January 23, 2011 at 5:00. Renee Anjanette (photographer) and Sienna DeGovia (food stylist) will also discuss their roles on the project.

Even the cover of Krystina Castella’s cookbook “A World of Cake: 150 Recipes for Sweet Traditions From Cultures Near and Far” tempts the taste buds. Everyone who spotted the book lying on my desk stopped to look at it and then drooled over the gorgeous photographs of cakes from around the world. You don’t even have to try a recipe from it to like this cookbook. It just plain fun to read. For full review and king cake click here.
